SCHOOLS WHO FIND THE ART IN SWEETARTS
CAN WIN $10,000
Students Art Serves as an Outlet For Creativity
and Money For Schools
GLENDALE, CA (March 27, 2001) VanGogh used paints, Michelangelo
sculpted marble and now students can use SweeTARTS candy to create
a masterpiece and earn money for their school. As part of Nestlé
SweeTARTS Find the Art in SweeTARTS
and Discover
the Artist in YOU national art contest, six schools, grades
3-8 will be rewarded for constructing a life-size mural or sculpture
that best captures school spirit. One grand-prize winner will be rewarded
$10,000 to benefit their school and five schools will collect a $5,000
first-place prize.
Designed to encourage art in school and build an appreciation for
art in everyday life, this contest provides children an outlet for
creativity and expression. The contest makes art more fun and accessible
and unites students in dreaming up the ultimate art project.
One of last years five grand-prize winners, Agnes Elementary
School in Lynwood, Calif., created a
12-foot by 50-foot mural, titled A Learning Adventure.
Spanning an entire school wall, the colorful images depict children
studying and playing together as well as the exploration of space
and nature. Agnes Elementary School students enjoyed constructing
the award-winning mural so much, they used their $5,000 prize from
Nestlé SweeTARTS to purchase materials to create another mural.
Art is a beneficial medium for discovering ones talents
and strengths while reinforcing self-confidence, said Tricia
Bowles, Manager of Public Relations, Nestlé Confections &
Snacks. The Find the Art in SweeTARTS contest encourages
students to explore their interests and emotions by creating a masterpiece
they can take pride in and earn a sweet prize.
Nestlé SweeTARTS is providing schools with instructional materials,
including: an eight-page mini-magazine with art history lessons on
impressionism, sculpture and murals; a teachers guide; and a
colorful wall poster. All participating classes will receive free
samples of SweeTARTS candy to enjoy as well as use in their art project,
proving that everyday objects can be used in art. Children can be
inventive using items in their backpacks, from paper and shoelaces
to scissors and SweeTARTS candy the only limitation is their
imagination!
